James's treatments grow increasingly more brutal, and George makes a decision about Anna's future. 51,000Anna's tainted honeymoon continues when she decides to read the letter Andrew delivers, and learns the truth about Olivia and James' son. Elizabeth decides to leave Ash Park, and does so after farewelling her family. George heads out on horseback, closely followed by Regina, when René heads out with a shotgun. Sarah emerges from the shower, to a gunshot, and finds a shocked René, a gun-wielding Regina and an unconscious George lying on the ground with a gunshot wound. 1,302,000Olivia tells Andrew they can no longer be friends and reassures James of her love for him.

Sarah gets an inkling of what Elizabeth is plotting. The Blighs cope with many changes, not all for the better. As Anna starts her trial period at the Polettis, she also grapples with the implications of her true parentage. Sarah begins life at Ash Park while hiding a terrible secret from George.

And James and Olivia suffer through his treatments at the clinic each in their own way. Amy Polson was originally played by Krew Boylan, however due to scheduling issues, the role is now played by Amy Mathews. Sara Wiseman and Matt Levett, who portray Carolyn Bligh and Andrew Swanson respectively, have both been promoted to the main cast. Jenni Baird and Deborah Kennedy, who portray Regina Standish and Doris Collins respectively, will both return for season two. Filming for the second season began in September 2013 and wrapped in December 2013. Elizabeth arranges a formal party, so that she can show Sarah that she is out of her depth.
Confronted with the consequences of her past actions, Elizabeth makes a difficult change. René begins to realize all that Sarah has given up for him. George returns to Ash Park and plans to make an important announcement at his welcome-home dinner. Sarah struggles to break the news of her pregnancy to Rene. Due to this, the last episode of season two had to be hastily rewritten and filmed to accommodate the cancellation and tie up any loose storylines. However, on 25 October 2014, it was announced the show was to be revived by Foxtel for at least two more seasons. Due to the revival, the original ending was aired later to give the original lead-in to season three.

On the morning of baby George’s christening, Regina tries to persuade James to return to Ash Park in the hopes of proving her loyalty to George. On the anniversary of Lewis Bligh’s death, George reflects on the troubled relationship he had with his father. After accidentally attacking Sarah, Rene decides to undergo a risky brain surgery, but Sarah refuses to sign the consent form. Sarah has taken ill and fears for the life of her baby.
Olivia, feeling guilty about the baby deception, is visited by Andrew prompting feelings of jealousy from James. As Sarah and George are about to host their engagement party, Sarah confides to her Aunt Peg her darkest secret. Elizabeth needs Prudence's help in her vendetta against Sarah.
Regina threatens Sarah's future as George's life hangs in the balance. Anna and Gino's honeymoon is clouded by the contents of Swanson's latter and Sarah tells Jack a secret. Jack received an Order of Australia for his services to rural medicine. "They died within days of each other. Their loved indeed lasted forever."
This episode contains the ending originally planned for Season 2. When the show was canceled midseason, a new finale was made to wrap up the story lines. After the show’s unexpected renewal, the creators decided to pick up Season 3 following this cliffhanger. Regina lays her trap to win George’s affections, even as George resolves to leave Inverness.
Carolyn wants Jack to confront his intimacy issues. After Sarah reveals her shocking secret to George, their relationship is thrown apart. The Christmas soirée causes Jack's intimacy issues to be brought out.
